This year I have been selected as a Roanoke Artist in Residence as part of the Neighborhood Activation Team for the Daisy Art Parade.
The first step to getting involved in the Daisy Art Parade is to find a Krewe.
What’s that? “A Krewe is a social group that wants to do something for others, like a barn raising or in this case a float building. You don’t have to be an artist or creative to be in a Krewe, but you should like rolling up your sleeves!” (quote from the parade website).
As a Neighborhood Artist, I’m working with the 11th street neighborhood to connect people with resources for joining krewes, donating or procuring useful materials, finding spaces to meet and work together, and generally supporting the effort to make your giant puppet dreams a reality.
Towards that goal, I’ll be organizing a few events throughout the Spring. Everyone is welcome at these events, even if you don’t plan to join the Urban Gardeners Krewe.
What is the Urban Gardeners Krewe?
Everyone is welcome to march together as The Roanoke Garden Appreciation Club. As any urban gardener knows, no one appreciates our efforts more than the deer. And the groundhogs, squirrels, and insects. Dress up as whatever has been appreciating your garden a little too much over the years and join the Urban Gardeners Krewe on parade day.
